Les Mathes is a village in the Charente-Maritime situated in the heart of the Arvers peninsula. This is the historic heart of La Palmyre, a seaside resort built in the 1960s which has retained its holiday feel! The old village stands facing the sea on the edge of an 8,000ha pine forest, the Forêt de la Coubre, planted in the early 19th century to combat the invading sand dunes. There are two beaches here: the family beach of La Palmyre, sheltered by Bonne Anse bay, and the beach on the Côte Sauvage, which is more suitable for water sports. Cycle paths extending for more than 40km provide the perfect setting for walks or rides through the shaded forest either alone or with the family.
