La Faute sur Mer is the southernmost resort in the Vendée. It is located in the Pertuis Sea facing the Ile de Ré, near the bay of Aiguillon. The beaches of La Faute sur Mer extend for 8 km from La Tranche at the end of Pointe d'Arçay. They are well sheltered and one can practice many water activities including sand yachting. Four beaches are monitored. They are all gently sloping which is nice for families with children. Some beaches are equipped for people with reduced mobility but access from the car parks is a little remote (access by paved paths and sand). La Faute is one of the most recent towns in the Vendée (1953 - separation with La Tranche sur Mer). The northern part (the area closest to La Tranche) was conquered by drying out. To the south, there is the tip of Arçay (5 km long still expanding bordered by a forest of maritime pines) which is a spit that is due to the sea and the wind. We find on this one very beautiful wild beaches.
