LOCATION
Montignac is perhaps best known for its proximity to the famous Grottes de Lascaux, a pre-historic site with beautifully preserved cave paintings from the Palaeolithic age. The town sits on the banks of the Vezere River and its historic centre boasts picturesque narrow streets. Markets bring the town to life on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Make the most of the region's beautiful countryside whilst staying in Montignac by following the various rambling and horse-riding trails available for all ages and abilities, as well as climbing and caving for more adventurous visitors. Plus, the resort offers golf and tennis facilities for something a little more relaxing and familiar. Foodies should make sure they try the numerous local delicies on offer in Montignac's shops and restaurants, such as confits, foie gras, and local wines.

PERIGORD
Four distinctly coloured landscapes come together to form one larger area, the Dordogne's Perigord. Split between the Perigord Vert (Green Perigord), the northern part of Perigord and a green, hilly gem, crisscrossed with streams and home to the Perigord-Limousin National Park; the Perigord Blanc (White Perigord), in the centre of the area and mostly comprised of limestone plateaus and large meadows, with the Auvezere and Isle Rivers running through it; the Perigord Noir (Black Perigord), characterised by its dark Oak tree leaves and famous for its prehistoric sites, mediaeval villages and cliff-top castles, and home to villages such as Montignac and Sarlat; and the Perigord Rouge (Red Perigord), home to the vineyards which give this area its distinct colour and located towards the mouth of the Dordogne River.
