Split between the Perigord Vert (Green Perigord), the northern part of Perigord and a green, hilly gem, crisscrossed with streams and home to the Perigord-Limousin National Park; the Perigord Blanc (White Perigord), in the centre of the area and mostly comprised of limestone plateaus and large meadows, with the Auvezere and Isle Rivers running through it; the Perigord Noir (Black Perigord), characterised by its dark Oak tree leaves and famous for its prehistoric sites, mediaeval villages and cliff-top castles, and home to villages such as Montignac and Sarlat; and the Perigord Rouge (Red Perigord), home to the vineyards which give this area its distinct colour and located towards the mouth of the Dordogne River.
